{"id":223,"date":"2005-12-12T08:58:54","date_gmt":"2005-12-12T12:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.folsoms.net\/wordpress\/?p=223"},"modified":"2005-12-12T08:58:54","modified_gmt":"2005-12-12T12:58:54","slug":"radical-militant-librarians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.folsoms.net\/wordpress\/?p=223","title":{"rendered":"Radical Militant Librarians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/12\/11\/national\/nationalspecial3\/11patriot.html?adxnnl=1&#038;adxnnlx=1134391648-ZISwXpQ86ZuSAJRHRkN5KQ\">Quoting an FBI Agent, from an article in the NY Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n&#8220;While radical militant librarians kick us around, true terrorists benefit from OIPR&#8217;s failure to let us use the tools given to us,&#8221; read the e-mail message, which was sent by an unidentified F.B.I. official. &#8220;This should be an OIPR priority!!!&#8221;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Doesn&#8217;t that phrase trip lightly off the tongue, conjuring an assortment of images?  &#8220;Radical Militant Librarians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whisper, and you might be beheaded.<\/p>\n<p>In fairness, the article discusses the reluctance of the FBI to authorize use of <u>any<\/u> portion of the Patriot Act, to some extent because of the widespread objections to its less accepted provisions.  <\/p>\n<p>But still, <u>Radical Militant Librarians<\/u>??    I guess it goes along with the greater war on terror, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2004\/EDUCATION\/02\/23\/paige.terrorist.nea\/\">Secretary Ron Paige calling the NEA a &#8220;Terrorist Organization.&#8221;<\/a>.
