Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither, and lose both.

Mike Fitzpatrick

My own congressman is Michael Fitzpatrick. I’ve known Mike for a long time, though not closely. He was a county commissioner prior to getting the GOP nod for congress when Jim Greenwood stepped down unexpectedly, leaving a democratic challenger, Ginny Schrieder, in the surprise position of opposing not a long-standing congressman but a new candidate. Ginny, while an admirable person, was not (in my opinion) up to the challenge of a “real” congressional race.

Mike as a county commissioner has done a lot for the local Boy Scouts, and served on the BSA Council Executive Board. He even came and spoke at my oldest son’s Eagle Court of Honor. I have a lot of respect for Mike; he’s done good things. It’s unfortunate that he has gotten caught up in the Republican culture in Washington. He has recently gotten some national attention for his support of the Delay/Abramoff corruption machine.

Honestly, I think Mike is a good man who is just over his head with the machinations of the government-for-hire Republican national scene. I sincerely wish he had stuck to doing his best for the county on a local level.

While I wish Mike no ill, I am pleased that Bucks County, and PA’s 8th Congessional District, have a true reform candidate running. Patrick Murphy is an army veteran and a paratrooper, having served in both Bosnia and Iraq, where he earned a Bronze Star. He also is the youngest person ever to serve as an instructor at West Point. Mike recently traveled to Iraq to get some photo opportunities, Patrick did the real deal. Having met Patrick Murphy in person, I was amazed at his depth of knowledge in constitutional law, and his understanding of the issues facing America and ordinary Americans. He is a prime face in the group of (so far) 48 “Fighting Dems” running in congressional races.

I truly wish Mike Fitzpatrick well. As a scout leader, I appreciate his tireless efforts to support that organization. As an American though, I actively support Patrick Murphy’s attempt to gain Mike’s congressional seat. We need Patrick in congress, and Mike back at the local level, doing what he does best, unassociated with the Republican scoundrels currently in Washington pulling his strings.

It is truly ashamed that your lack of knowledge can put doubt on our Congressman fine name. He is the 5th most independent Congressman in the House today. He has gone against the Republican party for the good of the people of Bucks County; This is not for his own political gain, but to do what is right. and that my friend is what Mike Fitzpatrick is about. He is our home grown, true to his word – real deal. Not planted here for his own political gain. Pat Murphy go home – find out where you come from and who you really are.

I HAVE READ THE ABOVE ARTICLE ATTACKING CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK AND IT IS SAD THAT ONE MUST PROFESS A POLITICAL AGENDA WHEN BEING NEGATIVE AGAINST THE CONGRESSMAN.

FIRST, THE CONGRESSMAN’S OPPONENT IS AN AMERICAN VETERAN WHO HAS SERVED OUR NATION PROUDLY. CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK HAS COMMENDED MR. MURPHY FOR HIS SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.

SECOND, IN REGARD TO THE IRAQ WAR ISSUES, CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK WAS NOT IN CONGRESS WHEN THE IRAW WAR BEGAN; HOWEVER, THE CONGRESSMAN HAS MADE EVERY EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT THE U.S. MILITARY STATIONED IN WAR AREAS HAVE THE PROPER MATERIALS TO PERFORM THEIR DUTIES AND IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR A CONGRESSMAN TO DO A TOUR OF MILITARY SERVICE AREAS.

THIRD, TODAY THE UNITED STATES HAS AN ALL VOLUNTEER MILITARY. A TOUR OF DUTY IN THE MILITARY IS NOT A PRECEDENT FOR PUBLIC OFFICE. CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK HAS SUPPORTED THOSE WHO ARE PRESENTLY IN THE MILITARY AND HE HAS SUPPORTED MANY VETERANS ISSUES TO INCLUDE AN INCREASE IN SPENDING FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS.

FOURTH, CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK’S OPPONENT IS BASICALLY A ONE ISSUE CANDIDATE WHO IS AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR. YES, HE SERVED IN IRAQ BUT HE IS NOT THE ONLY VETERAN TO DO SO. MR. MURPHY HAS THE RIGHT TO HIS OPINION AND CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK CONTINUES TO FIGHT FOR AN INDIVIDUALS RIGHT TO HAVE THEIR OPINION.

FINALLY, MR. MURPHY CONTENDS THAT HE WAS RAISED IN BRISTOL, PA; YET, RECORDS DEMONSTRATE THAT HE WAS RAISED AND SCHOOLED IN PHILADELPHIA, PA. IT IS FANTASTIC THAT MR. MURPHY HAS MOVED TO BUCKS COUNTY; HOWEVER, IF ONE CAN NOT BE HONEST WITH THE VOTERS ON ONE’S EARLIER RESIDENCY THAN HOW CAN THE VOTERS TRUST HIS COMMENTARY ON OTHER VARIOUS ISSUES.

AS A DISABLED VETERAN, I HAVE SEEN CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK ASSIST VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES, NON-VETERANS, SENIOR CITIZENS, YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER CONSTITUENT ISSUES.

CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK MAY NOT BE A VETERAN; HOWEVER, HE HAS NOT FORGOTTEN THOSE WHO SERVED OUR GREAT NATION.

Oh my, how to respond to this.

“I HAVE READ THE ABOVE ARTICLE ATTACKING CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK AND IT IS SAD THAT ONE MUST PROFESS A POLITICAL AGENDA WHEN BEING NEGATIVE AGAINST THE CONGRESSMAN.”

What is this supposed to mean? Of course I have a political agenda, that is the nature of the post. Would you rather I attacked him without professing a political agenda? Do you have any idea what these words mean? Furthermore, I don’t believe I am “attacking” Mike Fitzpatrick. As I said in the post, which you apparently did not read, I have a lot of respect for him, and feel he’s done a tremendous job at a local level.

“SECOND, IN REGARD TO THE IRAQ WAR ISSUES, CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK WAS NOT IN CONGRESS WHEN THE IRAW WAR BEGAN; HOWEVER, THE CONGRESSMAN HAS MADE EVERY EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT THE U.S. MILITARY STATIONED IN WAR AREAS HAVE THE PROPER MATERIALS TO PERFORM THEIR DUTIES AND IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR A CONGRESSMAN TO DO A TOUR OF MILITARY SERVICE AREAS.”

Whether or not he was in congress when it started, Mike has taken every opportunity to support the president’s war, long after the fallacies of the justifications for it had been proven. Mike’s brief visit to Iraq would have been more impressive if hadn’t occured directly after learning that Murphy would challenge him. I briefly mentioned this in complimenting Murphy. Again, did you actually read the article to which you are responding? The same can be said about your “THIRD” point.

“FOURTH, CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK’S OPPONENT IS BASICALLY A ONE ISSUE CANDIDATE WHO IS AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR. YES, HE SERVED IN IRAQ BUT HE IS NOT THE ONLY VETERAN TO DO SO. MR. MURPHY HAS THE RIGHT TO HIS OPINION AND CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK CONTINUES TO FIGHT FOR AN INDIVIDUALS RIGHT TO HAVE THEIR OPINION.”

Murphy a one issue candidate? Hardly. I suggest you read his information online, rather than parroting republican talking points. Fitzpatrick fighting for people’s rights to express an opinion? The Leadership Coucil on Civil Rights has given Mike a whopping 33% rating on civil rights issues, including freedom of speech. Mike has been strong in his support for the misnamed “Patriot Act.”

“FINALLY, MR. MURPHY CONTENDS THAT HE WAS RAISED IN BRISTOL, PA; YET, RECORDS DEMONSTRATE THAT HE WAS RAISED AND SCHOOLED IN PHILADELPHIA, PA. IT IS FANTASTIC THAT MR. MURPHY HAS MOVED TO BUCKS COUNTY; HOWEVER, IF ONE CAN NOT BE HONEST WITH THE VOTERS ON ONE’S EARLIER RESIDENCY THAN HOW CAN THE VOTERS TRUST HIS COMMENTARY ON OTHER VARIOUS ISSUES.”

To save you a little research, Murphy has not claimed to be from Bristol, but rather from this congressional district. To save you the effort of actually reading and researching, I will point out that portions of Philadelphia are part of the 8th congressional district.

“AS A DISABLED VETERAN, I HAVE SEEN CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK ASSIST VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES, NON-VETERANS, SENIOR CITIZENS, YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER CONSTITUENT ISSUES.”

Mike has an even less impressive 20% rating from the “Disabled American Veterans” organization, and another 20% rating from the Alliance for Retired Americans. Mike’s ratings from various social issue organizations were even more abysmal.

If this is supporting senior citizens and disabled veterans, god help us if he were against them.

All one needs to know about Mike’s place in Washington is to realize his very first vote in congress, far from being “independent” as he claims, was to amend the Republicans’ own rules, so that an indicted congressman could retain his leadership positions: the so-called “DeLay rule”.

Really, if you are going to claim actions for him, or comment on Patrick Murphy’s positions, you really ought to take the time to do a modicum of research.

If you would like to debate issues regarding the war, I will be happy to do so, but that is not the point of the post, which you
should know. If so, please do so in response to a post that actually addresses that issue.

Finally, unless you are accessing the internet via a Teletype machine, there is no reason to type in caps:

IT’S CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND IS VERY RUDE!

Is that your disability?

TO WHOM WHO DOES NOT WISH TO PLACE HIS/HER NAME ON THE POSTING AND SIMPLY CITES “ADMINISTRATOR”:

FIRST, YOU ATTACK ME PERSONALLY FOR USING CAPITAL LETTERS IN MY POSTING.

YOUR STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO MY EARLIER POST: “Finally, unless you are accessing the internet via a Teletype machine, there is no reason to type in caps:

IT’S CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND IS VERY RUDE!”

I RESPOND TO THAT STATEMENT AS YOU HAVE DEMONSTRATED SIR GEORGE BERNARD SHAW’S OPINION THAT YOUR RESPONSE HAS GIVEN A NEW MEANING TO THE TERM “JACKASS”!

THE REASON THAT I USE CAPITAL LETTERS IS THAT I AM RAPIDLY LOSING THE BATTLE OF SIGHT DUE TO DIABETES.

SECOND, IN MY EARLIER POST I DID NOT ATTACK MR. MURPHY’S CONTRIBUTION TO OUR NATION THROUGH HIS SERVICE WITHIN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES.

THE COMMENTARY WHICH I PROFESS IS MY OWN AND NOT THAT OF ANY PARTICULAR POLITICAL CANDIDATE INCLUDING CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK.

THIRD, THE INFORMATION OF MR. MURPHY’S RESIDENCY WITHIN BRISTOL BOROUGH CAME FROM THE “SPIN” CAMPAIGN ON MR. MURPHY’S OWN WEB SITE. I AM GLAD THAT YOU STATED THAT MR. MURPHY WAS RAISED IN N.E. PHILADELPHIA TO COUNTER MR. MURPHY’S AD ON HIS WEB SITE. YES, THERE ARE PORTIONS OF THE 8TH DISTRICT WHICH ARE LOCATED WITHIN NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA AND THERE ARE MANY FINE PEOPLE FROM THAT AREA.

FOURTH, THE ORGANIZATIONS WHICH YOU CITE GIVE THE PERCENTAGES OF MEMBERS OF STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS WHO VOTE ON ISSUES WHICH THEY LOBBY FOR. THIS WOULD INCLUDE THE DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS. TO GIVE YOU CREDIT WITHOUT KNOWING YOU PERSONALLY MAY OR MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE BUT I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE AWARE THAT THERE ARE ADD ONS ONTO VARIOUS BILLS WHICH A MEMBER OF CONGRESS CAN NOT SUPPORT BECAUSE THE ADD ONS HAVE LITTLE TO DO WITH A PARTICULAR ISSUE. FOR EXAMPLE, WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO SUPPORT AN ADD ON FOR FUNDS TO A BRIDGE TO NO WHERE JUST TO GET A BILL PASSED. SOMETIMES, A MEMBER OF CONGRESS MUST VOTE AGAINST A BILL DUE TO ADD ONS.

FINALLY, THE VOTERS OF THE EIGTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT WILL MAKE UP THEIR MINDS IN LESS THAN 90 DAYS ON WHO WILL REPRESENT THEM IN WASHINGTON, D.C.. THEY WILL DO SO WITH OR WITHOUT OUR DIALOGUE.

THEREFORE, I HOPE YOU CONTUNUE TO UTILZE A DICTIONARY AND A THESAURUS IN YOUR POSTINGS AND FUTURE WRITINGS SO YOU CAN LEARN NEW WORDS ON A DAILY BASIS. I LOVE TO SEE THOSE SUCH AS YOURSELF ADVANCE THEIR INTELLECTUAL ABILITIES.

BY THE WAY, BEFORE YOU GET CRITICAL, I DID ACTUALL SPELLED THE WORD “EIGHTH” INCORRECTLY DUE TO A TYPO BUT NO ONE IS AS PERFECT AS YOU ARE. ENJOY YOUR DAY…

CAN YOU SPOT WHERE I DID NOT PLACE A “Y”? OF COURSE YOU DID BECAUSE YOU ARE MR. OR MRS. OR MISS CRITICAL!

Since it is my website and my blog, I would assume that anyone with even a modicum (oops, was that the word that confused you? how about “teeny bit”?) of intelligence would realize that I am the administrator, but perhaps that is too much to ask.

I will, however, apologize for using vocabulary which apparently confuses you. I will try to keep the dialog to words of one or two syllables (oops, ‘sounds’) if that helps.

Net etiquette is what it is. You can obviously see well enough to read, if not to understand. If not, Microsoft has provided utilities under Programs/Accessories/Accessibility to help. You might want to learn to use them. All Caps remains rude, whether you know it or not. So is responding to issues not raised in the original post.

You give no evidence to believe that Fitzpatrick has failed to support a bill do to what are termed “riders” (not add-ons). If you believe that to be the case, state your evidence. Otherwise your argument is vacuous.

Yes, the voters of the eighth district will make their choice with or without us. I do hope, however, that they will base their votes on actual votes and positions, readily available to anyone who cares to research them.

Since you are not willing to abide by simple net etiquette rules, and are not willing to respond to actual issues in the post, nor even to consolidate your thoughts into a single response at a time, I will as of now bar further posts from you. Thanks for your input, but I get more reasoned arguments from the cub
scouts.

Mike Fitzpatrick is going down on November 7th for failing the 8th District and for pretending to care about vets. He lost my support when he flip-flopped on Iraq. Bob Ausura is a little bit scared b/c he knows Patrick is going to spank Mike’s ass. You were correct when you said that Mike should have stayed local…He is trying to please all of the folks who have helped grease his machine.

OOps, I put down the wrong link. Here is the link that has all of the info you will need about Fitzpatrick and his great track record with vets.
